It was back to Jamestown for its annual Cup meeting and this year the
weather was wamr and sunny with a sizable crowd growing throughout the
day and partying on after the races were over.
The first race King Rodney returned to Jamestown where he won the first
race two years ago to repeat the dose. Settling in fourth behind
Charlie's Princess then Ethbaal and She's On Fire King Rodney took
advantage of the gap provided to run on along the inside rail.
Joining the leader in the closing stages King Rodney was too good with
the 60kg topweight with Charlie's Princess second and Ethbaal third.
King Rodney is trained by Ron Campbell and was ridden by Caitlin Forrest
and takes his record to 33 starts for 7 wins and 13 placings.
In the second race Moment of
Excess led from Always About Ellie with Bian Brave behind them one off
the rail. Approaching the home turn Bian Brave moved to the
outside and quickly took control racing away to win easily from Spinning
Crown who ran on well with Moment of Excess fighting on for third with
Magic Messiah making ground late for fourth. Bian Brave is from
the Morphettville stable of Ryan Balfour and was ridden by Caitlin
Forrest and the 4yo Bianconi mare took her record to 4 starts for one
win.
The third race saw
Defonet and Diamond Range lead early from So Many Pennies and
Stakhanovite who was resuming after a long break since February and is
better known as a middle distance horse with Clay Paver at the rear of
the field. Around the home turn Defonet had kicked well clear in
front as Stakhanovite started to run on front Diamond Range then the
others. Defonet was too speedy maintaining his lead to the line
from Stakhanovite who tried hard under the 59kg first up with Clay Paver
making late ground for third. Topweight Defonet is a 6yo by
Hussonet from Defiant and is from the stable of Paula Trenwith and was
ridden by Emily Finnegan taking his record to 37 starts for 6 wins and 7
placings.
In the next there was a
small field of four after scratchings where Youllnevawalkalone went to
the front from Zanoni then Pierremont Magic with Come on Karol at the
tail. The four spread across the track in the home straight but
Youllmevawalkalone was just in front from Zanoni as PIerremont Magic ran
on and Come on Karol tried to run on out wide. IN the final 200m
Youllnevawalkalone found his second wind and raced away again to win
easily from Pierremont Magic who made late ground with Zanoni third.
Youllnevawalkalone is a 3yo colt by Captain Gerrard from Suntec City and
is trained by Nick Smart and ridden by Caitlin Forrest who rode a treble
in the first 4 races. Its was Youllnevawalkalone's first win in
three starts after two fourths at his previous runs.
Race 5 was the Jamestown Cup
with had the biggest field of the day. Besa Bola led early as
Pelekunu Valley went forward with Spanish Halo about midfield.
Around the home turn Pelekunu Valley hit the front from Besa Bola as
Eternal Heart went for an inside run with Spanish Halo finding the gaps
between runners to come down the centre of the track. IN the run
to the line Spanish Halo stormed home too strongly to win the Cup well
from Eternal Heart who tried hard along the rails with Besa Bola
fighting on for third ahead of Bellchuca who ran on for fourth.
Spanish Halo is a 8yo by Iglesia from Tolinda and is from the stable of
Wally Bencic and was ridden by Kate Brooks. He took his record to
56 starts for 7 wins and 23 placings and was coming off a close up 5th
at Morphettville Parks carrying 61kg last start.
The last race had the
closest finish of the day. Ordynski's Hill another former
Jamestown winner led early from Warraside then Metro Fox followed by
Limbo Queen on the outside from Ziazan and More Please. Around the
home turn Warraside and Ordynski's HIll were in front as Limbo Queen
moved out wide for her run and Metro Cat got through the gap near the
rail. INside the final 200m Limbo Queen was just ahead of Metro
Cat and Warraside as the trio fought the race out right to the line and
at the post Limbo Queen was just ahead of Warraside second with Metro
Cat third. Limbo Queen is by Akhadan from At a Party and is from
the stable of Darryl Hewitt and ridden by David Tootell the only male
rider and only senior rider to win on the program. Limbo Queen
took her record to 42 starts for 5 wins and 8 placings.
