As winter set in (it was cold despite
the sun in the photos) the first race was taken out by Psychic Mick (Shinzig-Super
Fund) who has now won three out of three as he made a determined run to
grab leader Beyond Infinity just before the line with Nimasael running
on on the outside for third. Moving to the longer distance for race two
the imported Akzar loomed up and appeared to hit the lead momentarily
but Langridge Street fought back strongly on the inside and under strong
riding from Darren Gauci pushed his head out to win narrowly with Sea
Corral in third. Langridge Street is by Elvstroem and was
reportedly the first city winner for Gauci since his comeback from
serious injuries after a fall last winter.
In the third race for 3yos Karacatis (by Hussonet) came away in the
straight to win easily from Harmonic with Back on Track in third.
Another close finish followed in race 4 where Handsome As was just too
strong on the line for Bermondsey with Penzevengi third in the big
field.Later races saw the
gutsy mare Just Sybil overcome any Black Caviar after affects to win the
Open while My Uncle Vinny put together his second win in a row in race
6. Ace of Joka also repeated his win at his previous start in
taking out race 7 over 1400m while Darren Gauci riding again for M Hibbs
made it a double in the last race riding Light Express to victory.
