The first
metropolitan race meeting of the year started with with topweight Ogunde
taking out the 1000m race from Imperial Lines with Meadow's Cat third.
The consistent Ogunde took his record to 24 starts for 6 wins and 9
placings. In the 2yo race Miracles of Life made it two from two
and after a short duel with the respected Victorian Midnight Rule she
race away so impressively Miracles of life was soon made favourite for
the Blue Diamond Stakes in Feb. Midnight Rule held secondwith
first starter Grand Armada third.
Victorian's had
their revenge in the third race where Emperor Max trained by Peter Moody
was too good winning from You're Discreet with Lizana third. In
the next race Pelicano returned to the winners list carrying 60kg to
defeat Tabulated with Doc Hennessy third. Pelicano has now had 13
starts for 6 wins and 2 placings. Lionhearted Girl fought on
strongly to hold off Slippery Ninja with Bella Dolce third winning her
second race in succession and taking her overall record to 36 starts for
11 wins and 8 placings.
Hastein surprised
many in finding form at his third start from a spell defeating Juliet's
Princess with Final Command third. However a closer look at
Hastein's record and while his overall record is 28 starts for 7 wins
and 6 placings over the track and disance of todays race he had had 4
starts for 1 win and 4 placings.
In the 7th race
Idalou showed how well he had returned from 'retirement' n storming down
the outside to win going away from St Fraser with Conduction third.
Idalou retired at the end of 2011 as an 8yo and was to become an
equestrian mount but was returned and it was decided he was going well
enough to return to racing. First up he was second to the
promising Aregee McLaren and was then 6th of 14 before today's run.
In the
last race Highness raced away to win by over 2 lengths from Eclair Rally
with Savannah Prince third. Highness took his record to 12 starts
for 4 wins and 5 placings.
