Today saw the first two races for 2yo
fillies and 2yos and the first went to the Adelaide Magic Millions
graduate in Splash of Moet (Dash for Cash - Storm Tossed) who raced away
to win strongly from the Victorian Galvez wth topweight Princess Royale
third. Race 2 went to the Victorian visitor Grand Emperor by
Written Tycoon who was in front well into the straight but was soon
joined by Akahadoo but the former fought back strongly to win with
Prince Stratum further back in third.
The Open Hcp followed with Bundle
o'Gold and Periduki up in the leading group with Counter Sign in behind
with Morgan Dollar well placed to challenge around the turn and Disquiet
further back. In the straight Periduki fought off Bundle O'Gold
with Counter Sign getting through late but it was Disquiet with all the
momentum storming down the outside to win from the gallant Periduki with
Lilgiggleo running on well for third. Morgan Dollar was found to
have bled and has now been retired with a career spanning 39 starts over
5 years for 4 wins including the Dermody Stakes and 11 placings with
most of his racing taking place in Victoria against the best sprinters
of recent times including Hay List, Apache Cat and champion Black
Caviar.
The fourth race was taken out by
the promising stayer Sky Raider who has now won 7 from 17 starts plus 5
second placings from Our Freed Man who tried hard to hold on with
Ballypatrick third.
The remaining races went to Avoid
Lightning who took her record to 3 from 4, Kellerman, Mr Lowndes and Hot
Diamond with Paul Gatt riding a treble for the day.
