The first meeting of the Adelaide Cup weekend was sponsored by Shadwell Stud with each race named after some of their best Australian racehorses including At Talaq who started it all winning the 1986 Melbourne Cup and going on to be well known stallion, Almaarad who won the Cox Plate and also then went to stud in Australia & Ireland, Zabeel brilliant racehorse and champion sire, Jeune champion racehorse and sire standing at Lindsay Park in SA and later in Victoria, Fraar Caulfield Cup winner who also stood at Lindsay Park, Tawqeet who won the Caulfield Cup and Metropolitan before going to stud overseas, Nadeem and Reewaaya.  Shadwell Stud won race 4 the Tawqeet Hcp with Shaf.

Also on the program were the first Arabian races held at Morphettville also sponsored by Shadwell as part of the Dubai International Arabian Races with the UAE Arabian Plate won by the 5yo gelding Justice for All while the Shadwell Arabian Stallions Plate went to the 11yo Warrawee Naaziq.

Shadwell also sponsored the painted horse competition where horses were painted by local schools with first and second places taken out by the horses pictured below.
