Morphettville Races - Pictorial Report

20 April 2013

The first race was for the 2yos and only two of the 7 runners had raced before.  One of these was topweight Tennessee Groom who sprinted clear in the straight but in the closing stages he was run down by Ziggler who won by a length from Coup De Beel with a half length to Tennessee Groom  third.  Ziggler is by Shinzig from Princess Canny and is trained by Lloyd Kennewell and ridden by Paul Gatt.

In the next race Elldami was too good for Wotzitworth with Sky Raider third.  Elldami (Al Samer - Autumn Fair) returned to form to take her record to 16 starts for 3 wins and 4 placings winning for trainer P Stokes ridden by A Patterson.  The 3yo race was next where Saturn Rock broke through to win from Streetcar Valour with Brave Journey third.  Saturn Rock is by Fastnet Rock from Satin Robes and is from the stable of Victorian trainer R Smerdon and ridden by J Mott.

The first of the stakes races was next where The Voice stormed home to win the SA Sires Produce Stakes from Murtle Turtle with Bulbula third.  The first two horses were trained in SA with the winner from the stable of Tony McEvoy and The Voice has now won two and placed twice in his 4 starts and gave jockey Paul Gatt his second winner of the day.  In the next Daytona Grey was too speedy defeating Almighty Bullet and Misty Eyes with the winner taking his record to 15 starts for 4 wins and 2 placings.

In the City of Adelaide Hcp Linton made a successful return to Morphettville in winning with 62kg for John Sadler from Victoria with J Mott aboard from Road Warrior with Isopach third.  Linton won the RA Lee Stakes on Goodwood day last year but his race was right before Black Caviar's race so all attention was on the mare.  He takes his record to 22 starts for 5 wins and 6 placings and will be aimed at the RA Lee Stakes again.

In the HC Nitschke Stakes Couldn't Agreemore looked the winner until the final few bounds where General Peekay changed stride and really showed the effort of a horse who wanted to win just getting up at the line for Paul Gatt's third win of the day.  From the stable of Mick Price in Victoria he defeated Couldn't Agreemore with Red Fez third.  General Peekay by General Nediym took his record to 11 starts for 4 wins and 1 second.

In the last race Schumacher defeated Ogunde and Counter Sign making it six starts for 3 wins and 3 placings.
