Morphettville Races - Pictorial Report

25 August  2012

It turned into a day out for the girls at Morphettville on Saturday but in the first it was the Victorian raider Streaky Fella ridden by J Rule diving through in a packed finish to win narrowly from Montjeu Madame on the outside with Sky Raider on the rails third and Lennybe fourth.  In the next the talented filly Dinkum Diamond ridden by Jamie Kah made her return to racing taking her record to 3 starts for three wins and a second with Nullarbor Nymph second and Meadows Mist third.

Niello gelding El Magico powered away from the field to win from Weekend Special and Lilgiggleo taking his record to 4 starts for three wins and a third before the weather turned and the light showers turned into rain for the next.  Comic Composer made it a double for the L MacDonald/A Gluyas stable ridden by Clare Lindop in winning from the consistent Handsome As with Ebony Rock third.

In the Schweppes Hcp for fillies and mares topweight Roccin Jo pulled out all stops to run down Rhondamine in the last bound taking her 6th win and giving Jamie Kah an early double.  The rain set in for race 6 where Yokozuka made it a double for the Victorian stable of Aaron Purcell and J Rule in winning his second straight run from a spell defeating Queue for Quality with Meadow's Jim third.  Yokozuna has now won 10 races from 35 starts plus 11 placings.

It was finally time for the feature race the Penny Edition Stakes which saw Southern Speed return to winning form as she surged home from well back at the turn to take control inside the final 100m and win eased down on the line from My Bentley who finished on hard with Bagman third.  Alcopop and Rialya were also running on well back in the field in preparation for longer races this spring.  Southern Speed took her record to 21 starts for 6 wins and 6 placings and her earnings over the $2.5 mil mark and in doing so was the MacDonald/Gluyas stable's third win of the day.

In the last race Our Freed Man despite topweight of 60.5kg was too good winning from Drafted with Social Assassin third.

Next week is the big Irish Race Day where a team of Irish Jumps riders take on the Australian team in a Hurdle and Steeplechase to complete the series which starts with a highweight at Murray Bridge on Wednesday.
