Hacks

Best Novice Hack was taken out by J Conti's Dreamtime Revenge who was bred in New Zealand and raced as Dublin Darlin'.  By Savabeel from Jewel of Ireland she had 27 starts winning 4 races during her career in Victoria and was retired in April 2013.  The Thoroughbred Hack class went to J Bailey & M Christie's Mikimoto who raced as Lago Force.  By Encosta De Lago as a racehorse Mikimoto showed plenty of ability winning & being placed in several barrier trials before a short career of 7 starts where he win twice and was placed twice before being retired in 2011 after running second in another barrier trial.  Mikimoto went on to be awarded Champion Hack while Reserve Champion Hack was M Haynes, D Quayle and V Lawrie's Radiant who also took out the Sontiago Memorial Cup for hacks 16-16.2hh.

Radiant was very talented as a racehorse earning over $110,000 in a career of 49 starts for 6 wins and 7 placings.  Starting his career in Adelaide racing as Puerto Banus he won his second barrier trial before debuting in the 2yo stakes race the Queen Adelaide Stakes before being beaten a nose at his second start.  Sent to Melbourne he won 2 races as a spring 3yo before a short autumn campaign and then he missed a year of racing.  Back as a 5yo he changed trainers to P Seater and was back based in Adelaide where he collected a number of placings before winning 2 races in a row before a number of placings.  He returned to the winners list nearly a year later winning at Murray Bridge before a placing at Morphettville and was then transferred to S Casey.  After a win at Morphettville he lost form and went for a long spell before returning for a short 2 race campaign where he was out of form and was retired to the showring.

The winner of the Most Successful Horse in All Hack Classes was S Thompson's Concerto.  Concerto raced as Count Piccolo and was by the successful Queensland sire Piccolo and had a race career in Queensland of 20 starts for 1 win at Casino in 2003 with 4 placings and was retired in mid 2004.

Other racehorse on show at the Royal this year included the stakeswinner Rightfully Yours, former jumps horses Mcleod, Snazzy Lad, Brother James, Capri Lad and the Group 1 performer Sirmione who was trained by Bart Cummings and won over 1.8 million in prizemoney including the Mackinnon Stakes and Australian Cup (and was only beaten a nose in a second Australian Cup)
