Amazing weather greeted the 2023 show with just a few showers on
Thursday morning and the return of the bitter strong winds on Thursday
and Friday but otherwise one of the best in recent memory.
Hacks
Best Novice Hack went to K Halliday's Kalimna Quick Hit who also took
out Champion Hack and Best in Show! Reserve Champion Hack went to
E Richardson's Royalwood West End. Best Novice Galloway Hack was
awarded to M&M Burns & L Vanderput's KT So FIne who also was named
Reserve Champion Galloway Hack. Champion Galloway Hack went to I
Ker's Mcarthurpark Star Soprano. Champion Ridden Shetland Pony was
awarded to Tamrie Park & T Lee's Edgewood Jukebox whiile Reserve
Champion went to D&K O'Shannassy's Royalview Silhouette. Best
Novice Pony Hack was taken out by E Richardson's Tuscany Petite Serenade
who was also named Reserve Champion Pony Hack 12.2 - 14hh. Champion Pony
Hack ne 12.2hh was awarded to E Richardson's Hilbrie Coco Ribbon while
Reserve Champion went to Riemer Family's Riegal Sugar Plum.
Champion Pony Hack 12.2hh - 14hh went to C Gale's Royalwood Enchanting.
Best Novice Show Hunter Best Novice Show Hunter Horse was awarded to A
Berwick & A Stella's Ultimate PPH who was also named Champion Show
Hunter Horse. P Austin & A Lovell's Hedathmont Flirt was named
Reserve Champion Show Hunter Horse. Best Novice Show Hunter
Galloway was won by A Merry's NP Manhatten Showers while Champion Show
Hunter Galloway went to M Haynes, D Quayle & K Reid's Lily's Sovereign
with Reserve going to A Bartlett's Golden Sands Above and Beyond.
Best Novice Show Hunter Pony went to M Hunt's Ownedale Butter Schnapps.
Champion Show Hunter Pony ne 12.2hh was taken out by S&S Mullan Wright's
Owendale Beestong with Reserve Champion going to A Merry's Spashdance.
Champion Show Hunter Pony 12.2-14hh was awarded to C Schafer's Rosegate
Serenade with Reserve Champion going to A Berwick & J Orpwood' s Monte
Cristo V. Rider
Champion Junior Rider 14-18 years went to E Cooper with D Merry named
Reserve Champion. Champion Senior Rider went to M Cheeseman with C
Fricker taking out Reserve Champion. Champion Rider under 14 years
went to M Gaden while Reserve Champion went to S Gilmour.
Thoroughcare classes
Hack Premier Award was won by S Merry & J Clarke's Royal Fair who also took out
Racehorse to Show Horse Champion Hack. Reserve Champion Hack went
to F McIntyre & Highgrove . Hunter Premier Award went to S Penny's
Sheldene Delargo. Racehorse to Show Horse Champion
Show Hunter went to R Shannon-WInzer's Shaundale Park
Eqyptian Prince with Reserve Champion Show Hunter going to J Clark's
Parishon . Fashions Off the Track a led event was awarded to E
Bradshaw's Dominos with second place going to R Fleming & S Patterson's
Hartnell..
J Clark's Parishon is a half brother to NZ Stakes winner Princess Emmy.
He won 2 of his first 4 starts and then raced in the Melbourne metro
races including at Flemington. Later in his career he won further
races at Seymour and Caulfield before racing in the Greys race at the
Melbourne Cup carnival at Flemington. Parishon retired with a
record of 29 starts for 5 wins and 2 placings.
F McIntyre's Highgrove was sold as a yearling for $460,000 at the Magic
Millions Gold Coast and raced as Able Fun in Queensland, NSW and
Victoria finishing his career in the southern stable of Chris Waller.
He had 13 starts for 3 placings.
R Shannon-WInzer's Shaundale Park Eqyptian Prince is by a little known
stallion called Egyptian King who had 12 live foals recorded. He
was registed as Prince of Egypt but was unraced.
J Anderon's Poitier raced under that name starting his career showing
promise as a young horse in the stable of David Hayes after selling at
the Gold Coast Magic Millions for $300,000. Later in his career he
raced in SA and when he retired he had had 31 starts for 4 wins and 6
placings.
S Merry & J Clarke's Royal Fair raced as Sirkos. Bred in Germany by
Monsun (sire of Melbourne Cup winners Protectionist, Fiorente and
Americain) he started his racing career in Germany before racing in
France as a 3yo. Purchased by Australian interests he was imported
in late 2016 but didnt race here until March 2019. In Europe
he had won 2 races from 4 starts with one placing while in Australia he
won his 4th start a 2100m race at Geelong. After a further7 runs
in April 2020 he was retired.
S Penny's Sheldene Delargo unnamed and unraced by the Flying Spur
stallion Shaft and from the Encosta De Lago mare Yeo Belle and was
entered but later withdrawn from the Melbourne Yearling sales.
E Bradshaw's Dominos who raced as Deeling Us In. SOld through the
Melbourne yearling sales this son of Dundeel started his career in
Victoria but after 5 unplaced runs found himself in country NSW.
After 12 starts resulting in 6 placings at Coonabarabran, Moree,
Gunnedah, Tamworth and Inverell he had a further 3 starts in outback
Queensland and was retired after an unplaced effort at Barcaldine.
R Fleming & S Patterson's Hartnell on the other hand was a star of
Australian racing and would have taken all the accolades had he not
raced at the same time as Winx. Hartnell was bred in the UK and
had won 5 races there including at the Royal Ascot carnival before being
sent to Australia. FIrst up he was second in the Group 1 Chipping
Norton Stakes before winning both the Group 3 Sky High Stakes and Group
1 The BMW. Unplaced in 4 runs for the spring and on in the autumn
he returned to form in the spring of 2016 where he was second to Winx in
the Warwick Stakes before winning the Chelmsford, HIll Stakes and
the Turnbull Stakes. He was then second conceeding 2kg to Winx on
the Cox Plate before a fighting third in the Melbourne Cup. The
following autumn he had 4 starts for 3 placings including 2 seconds to
Winx. IN the spring of 2017 he won the Lawrence Stakes first up
before placings in the Makybe Diva and Underwood Stakes before 2
unplaced runs. In the autumn he won first up in the Group 1 CF Orr
Stakes before being placed in the Peter Young Stakes and 2 unplaced
runs. ANother short campaign in the spring followed for a win in
the Epsom Hcp and placings in the Lawrence Stakes and Toorak Hcp.
Hartnell had 5 runs in the autumn of 2019 for 4 placings including a
third in the Doncaster Hcp conceeding the winner nearly 10kg. On
last preparation followed in the spring with 7 runs for 3 placings
including his last run where he was third in the Mackinnon Stakes beaten
by just one length. Hartnell retired with a record of 58 starts
for 13 wins and 23 placings with over 7 million in earnings.

Champion Single Horse Business Turnout was awarded to S&M Finemore's
Churchill while Champion Multiple Horse Business Turnout went to I, L &
L Fritsch's Lowan Vale Fearghus. Champion Delivery Horse was
awarded to P Strafford's Samarah Park Thomas while Reserve Champion went
to I.l & L Fritsch's Lowan Vale Lady Anne. Champion Delivery
Mulitple Horse was won by I, L & L Fritsch's Lowan Vale Fearghus who
also took out Supereme Champion Traditional Heavey Harness Exhibit.
Light Harness
The Champion Shetland Harness Pony went to L Virgona's Kilpara Park on
Point who also won Reserve Champion Shetland Turnout and took out the
Supreme Shetland Pony in Harness. Reserve Champion Shetland
Harness Pony was A Lindh & E Ballinger's Lentara Ambition while Champion
Shetland Turnout went to L Virgona's Kilpara Park Mietta.
Champion Hackney Pony was awarded to M Holberton & A,P & C Cusack's The
Doune Monarch with Reserve Champion going to C James' Beauwood Amazing
Grace. Champion Hackney Horse went to M Holberton & A,P & C
Cusack's Makari Victory Light. Champion Non-Hackney Pony was
awarded to C Collins& A James' Rose Air Manikato while Reserve Champion
Non Hackney Pony went to R Lane's Naringlook Gandalf. Champion Non
Hackney Horse was taken out by Team Vaudin's Kittle Composer with
Reserve Champion going to Team Vaudin's Kittle Waltz.
C Collins & A James' Rose Air Manikato was awarded Champion Viceroy
Turnout with R Lane's Naringalook Gandalf named Reserve Champion.
Champion LIght Horse Turnout went to R Lane's Naringalook Gandalf with C
Collins & A James' Clemson Billboard named Reserve Champion.
Supreme Champion LIght Harness Exhibit was awarded to C Collins & A
