The day started in cool
conditions but with the sun trying to break through at times as the 2
star class started their course. Fence 5 in the photos below
proved the biggest 'bogey' fence of the course with many horses
recording refusals at that point (though I think it was Jacqui Bladier &
Ramirus were unlucky as they came in to line up the fence somewhere in
the crowd (right in front of the landing area) someone had some kind of
camera or device that sounded like a taser which was offputting for me
to the side - can only think how it sounded to the horse).
Christine Bates and Kung Fu Panda after leading overnight went clear
jumping and time to retain the front from Megan Jones and Kirby Park
Impress who also went clear with Kirsty Douglas and Cushavon Crackerjack
in third. Most eliminations were due to refusals on course with
the exceptions of Anthony Thomas and Southern Warlock who jumped a 4
star instead of a 2 star fence late in the course, Robert Palm and Koko
Story who had a fall late in the course while Emily McQueen and Kings
Sun hit one of the later fences very hard resulting in a cut to a leg
resulting in retirement and the horse being floated back to the stabling
area after treatment.
In the 4 star class after the first two riders there was a problem with
the exit out of the water which resulted in riders being held on course
and delaying the event for around 20-25 minute. During this time
Tarryn Proctor and ESB Irish Quest retired from the event and then once
restarted the weather turned first getting very dark then pouring with
steady rain for the rest of the event. All riders incurred time
penalties as they rode to the conditions with Jess Manson and Legal Star
taking the lead in the class from Megan Jones and Kirby Park
Allofasudden with Elizabeth Lowery and KL Kismet moving from second last
to third place. Madison SImpson and Major James moved up from last
to 4th with Tegan Lush & Tempus Fugit in 5th. Only two other
combinations did not complete the course being Jaimie Stichel who parted
company Image Blue Ice when he left a leg over a jump and she was
dislodged while Belinda Isbister & Holy Bruce fell late in the course.
All horses & riders that pulled up or fell were fine.
