Willow Grove Stud introduced their
new stallion Mint Lane who stands alongside Mugharreb at the Woodside
property at the open day held on 1 August 2010.
Mugharreb (Gone West-Marling) was imported in 2005 as the winner of the
Listed Hopeful Stakes and stakesplaced in the Duke of York Stakes
and National Day Cup (in Dubai). From two crops racing Mugharreb
is the sire of 65 named foals for 36 starters and 16 winners including
Blueharrebm Lipsting, Oakbank Rise and the highly promising Singapore
galloper Catch Me Now.Mint
Lane is by Maria's Mon who in a short stud career sired 490 winners
including 50 stakeswinners that included American Oaks winner Wait a
While, Kentucky Derby winners Monarchos & Super Saver plus Group 1
winners See How She Runs, Latent Heat, etc He is from the Mr
Prospector line mare Sister Girl who produced 8 foals to race for 8
winners including the Group 1 placegetter Sister Girl Blues. Mint
Lane started only twice as a 2yo for a 3rd in a Maiden over 6 furlongs
before being put away for his 3yo campaign. As a 3yo he broke his
maiden by nearly 7 lengths over 8 1/4 furlongs before going on to win an
Allowance over 8f by 8 1/2 lengths after leading all the way. He
was then only just run down by Casino Drive in the Peter Pan Stakes
before winning the Listed Postponed Hcp over 8f (1600m) by nearly 6
lengths with another performance of front running speed. Stepped
up to the Gr 2 Dwyer Stakes he was taken on early by Ready's Image (to
stand in the Hunter Valley this year) but had the strength to come away
again at the finish to win by nearly 3 lengths.
At his next start the Gr 2 Jim
Dandy Stakes, which was to be his final lead up to the Gr 1 Travers Stk,
Mint Lane ran valiantly for second but suffered a serious injury to his
hind fetlock joint which put an end to his 3yo campaign and the first
part of the following year. Returning as a 4yo the following year
his unplaced efforts showed the injury had taken its toll and he was
retired in November 2009 but as it was too late for the US breeding
season he was subsequently sold to Willow Grove Stud. He arrived
at Willow Grove Stud only 10 days before the stallion parade and
impressed those who came to see him parade despite the freezing cold and
rainy conditions. |
